Welcome to Julia Davey Ceramics, specialising in fine bone china tableware. Our company is a family affair with Julia designing and making, her mother the expert packaging assistant and tiny toddler hurricanes Thea and Mathilda causing havoc in the wings. Last but by no means least is the hairiest member of the team, our whippet-cross Maggie who is ‘Supervisor’ and keen on tea breaks.
All of the collections are inspired by the local area and travels to nearby Devon and Cornwall. Our studio is part of an old farm in the Bath countryside and so we find constant inspiration in the woodland creatures and fields that surround us. Every fine bone china piece is carefully decorated and hand finished before a firing in one of our two hard working kilns. We go that extra mile with each and every item to create an individual feel and ensure exceedingly high quality. However, we do not want the journey to end there, so our range is now carefully packaged in our illustrated boxes so that every gift you choose is ready to lovingly wrap complete with a care card. This explains how to keep your new china lasting for year’s worth of breakfasts and afternoon cups of tea.
Our story began in 2009 when Julia sold hand cast earthenware pieces at local craft markets. As demand grew, so did production and this led to a move to durable fine bone china clay. Julia Davey china is now found in independent galleries and shops throughout the UK. Over the last two years Julia has launched complementary British made products so you will also find her stationery, fabric and melamine here in our store.
We are excited to have opened a new 'bricks and mortar' shop in Bear Flat, Bath - stocking our full range and a small selection of other gifts made by talented artisans. A small area at the back of the shop is dedicated to holding small craft workshops for 4-6 people to learn a specific skill or as part of a termly class which is held over 8-10 sessions. Details of these workshops can be found in store or online. We also host children's birthday and hen parties at the shop, simply view the Workshops section or contact us to find out more.
