Charleston Ripple Sketchbook

$17.00

These Softback Sketchbooks are landscape format, and measure 210 x 130 mm. They have 80 pages of good quality 120 gsm plain ivory paper, which takes both pencil and ink beautifully, and which are perforated for easy removal. The lay-flat binding permits the book to be opened perfectly flat. The covers of thick patterned paper are litho-printed with colours hand-mixed to our specifications. The design runs over the front, spine, and back cover and the cover flaps without any branding or fussy labelling. There is a simple Cambridge Imprint stamp on the inside back cover.

Charleston Riplle is one of the designed by Cambridge Imprint for the Charleston Trust. Charleston was the Sussex farmhouse of Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant, and frequently served as temporary home to other members of their Bloomsbury circle during the first half of the twentieth century. The house is filled with the paintings and sculptures of the two artists, but Bell and Grant also decorated every surface of the house, the walls, doors, and furniture. Even the rugs, lampshades, bowls and plates were of their own devising.  This pattern aims to conjure the glorious colour and painterly exuberance of the Charleston interiors.

Cambridge Imprint is a small paper-making business in Cambridge, England, designing and printing patterned paper. They are known for beautiful colours, joyful illustration and typography, a lively, hand-drawn aesthetic, and meticulous attention to detail.
